Peace and Paws: Happy Tails

Happy Tails

Lilah with Ella and Erika

From Sue and Jill:

Just wanted to thank you and your crew again for the wonderful job you all do!!! Saving, rescuing, transporting these fabulous dogs can't possibly be as easy as you make it look!! The paperwork, emails, phone calls and who knows what else!! Connecting families with their four legged best friends is a wonderful reward!!! The faces on the families that I captured and posted on Jills facebook have touched our friends and family more than I can express!!!

Lilah(Roxie) has acclimated better than we could have emagined.....she is a love and we are so lucky to have her!!!! I'm attaching some pictures, cuz I know you'll want to see her enjoying us, and us enjoying her!!!

Panama and Daytona

From Karen:

Hello Melissa, Daytona and Panama are doing great. Actually I'm surprised at how quickly they seemed to have adjusted. Toilet training is going very well, and they are eating like Kings. They had their vet appointment this morning and everything was good. Everyone at Candray Pet Care loved them and thought they were beautiful. They knew how much my two dogs, that just passed away, meant to me and were happy I adopted two more puppies. We are getting alot of exercise each day, going on 8-10 walks per day. At night while watching tv, they are usually sleeping on their new beds in the living room. They are doing very well at night time, I have to wake them up about 2 am. to go out, and then I wake them again for 7am. for the day to begin. They are only in crates at night or when I need to get something done, like showering. I have spoken to their foster parents, Dana & Richard, a couple times to let them know how well they are doing and that they both have my heart already. It is so cool to see that brotherly bond that they have. They do everything together.

Thank you so much for all your help and immediate responses to my emails, which allowed me to get these two boys to me so soon. I don't think I could have waited any longer. It's nice to have that companionship again. I can see they are already attached to me. Always checking to see where I am. I have attached a couple pictures.

Thanks again, I LOVE them!!!

Juneau

From Kathy:

Juneau is doing GREAT! We have renamed him Schep. What a wonderful, friendly and adorable puppy. I believe this reflects superbly well on Linda Smith; what a tremendous job at fostering such a well tempered pup. Please extend my appreciation to her. Everyone that has met him cannot believe how good his temperment is and that he hasn't stopped wagging his tail and kissing since the moment Bo handed him to me.

I also want to Thank You and your husband and all of your assistants. This is the first time I have used a rescue organization as my other dogs had been directly from breeders. I was timid and skeptical about online searches and heard of scams but I am so impressed with your work which is both professional and personal. You have been able to effectively communicate with adopters with your emails and show transparency with your facebook pages, making the online experience less intimidating, and more comforting.

Thank you again!!!

Molly

From Fran:

Molly is such a joy and loved so much. We could not be happier with our four legged baby. Of course she is so smart and so eager to learn. I have so much fun with her and in June we were happy to find out that she also loves to swim. She just loves to do everything! She goes to doggy day care usually once a week so that she can socialize and play with other four legged babies. She loves "all" dogs and could not be more perfect. I know you must chuckle when all of us proud Mom's start telling you about our babies because we can could go on and on. :-)

For your joy, I have attached a few pictures. Be thankful I did not send them all. LOL

I feel so blessed and thankful for what you and Rachel do. Without the both of you, we would not have Molly and for that I am forever thankful!

Annie

From Joan:

Annie is wonderful. She is a true delight in every way. She is such a great fit, and we are doing very well. She has found a little puppy her age two houses down and they have play dates from time to time to run off that puppy energy. She is great with the grandchildren and they adore her. She even slept all night last night. I have her crate in my room so I can hear her. What else could you ask for? She knows COME and SIT already and follows me everywhere I go. She know which driveway to prance down after her morning walks. In case you can't read between the lines, she is a love. I have told everyone I meet about your organization and how easy you are to work with. Everyone in the office made such a big deal over her and how cute she is. She has filled a void in my home and my life. She is such a good match for me.

Thank you for all that you do for the little animals of the world who are in need of some love and a forever home.

Lexi

From Tracy:

I just wanted to say thank you again for all you and your husband are doing! You guys are great.

Our 'baby' is awesome. My son renamed her Lexi, and she is now pushing 70 lbs, and is the sweetest dog. She follows my son around like a watchdog. She howls at us when we don't give in to her, and she makes us laugh all the time. Thank you again and I hope you know how much everyone must appreciate your hard work!

Cosmo at the lake

From Jo:

It's been a crazy year for me getting Cosmo, my Masters and a new granddaughter in CA.( first girl after my four sons and one grandson as well as male Cosmo!) I was reviewing my emails to you both and just had to share how grateful we are for your rescue work! We couldn't love Cosmo more and I know he is one happy little guy with us! My only wish is that I could bring him to work with me! I hate leaving him even though there is someone at home with him 95% of the time. Thank goodness for summer! Being a teacher, I don't get paid during the summer but appreciate having the time at home!

No one in my life can believe what this dog means to me, my husband and our boys. Anyway, just another thanks to you and all for helping us get Cosmo!

PS After four years of struggling to get our 1988 boat working, my husband finally got the engine going and here is our mighty dog at the bow! Cosmo loves the boat and swimming with me from the shore! Thanks again for making these pics possible!

Miney with the chickens

From Erika:

Miney is doing awesome she loves her new home with her three dog siblings and her chickens! She is has the best personality and we absolutely LOVE her! Thank you so much.

Fred

From Pam:

hope you both had a great holiday weekend! We are on vacation on Chappaquiddick Island, and the dogs are loving it! I've attached a picture of Fred checking out the Atlantic surf (he is unimpressed!).

He is healthy (the vet was most pleased) and happy!

Thank you both again for bringing him to us.

Beacon

From Melissa:

Things couldn't be better! We are just enjoying him so much. He is such a smart, personable little pup. This morning was his first trip to the beach - He loved it! Thank you for checking in! I'm attaching a couple pictures of him for you to see. I will be sure to stay in touch. And thank you again for everything.

From Betsy:

Starburst is wonderful! We are spoiling him rotten, in a good way! He is almost house broken....which is amazing. He is only in the crate when we are unable to keep our eyes on him and with 3 of us, that doesn't happen often. He sleeps in our bedroom, and sleeps thru the night with no accidents! We can tell that his foster family took very good care of him! We have an appointment w/a vet next week. He has had his first bath (very fun) & his ears cleaned....not so much fun! This puppy is a true gift from God. Thank You!

Caleb

From Darcy:

I have to thank your complex network of care and logistics for the marvelous Caleb. He slept the whole two hours from Fishkill to Albany (with one potty break) and has since stolen my heart! He is the best snuggler, the funniest thinker and my new best friend. His new favorite things include: 1) hiding in the bathtub and giving me a heart attack when I scour the apartment and can't find him! Seriously, that little boy just wants to stay in there all day! 2) He loves the park! You know how some dogs eat grass? not this guy! His preference is for big hostas! He belly-flops into them, sticks his head under the leaves and then tries to eat them. Aparently, hostas are newfie catnip. 3) His new favorite toy is a squeeky lobster.

I have to thank you especially, Angie. You obviously spent a lot of time, energy and heart training him. Since we've been home he has not had ONE SINGLE accident inside!!! He knows "sit," and he sits and waits for the go-ahead to come in and out of doors. And his first night here, he slept through the nite in the crate without a peep! I had no idea he was going to be so easy! Everyone on the sidewalk loves him and compliments him on his well-mannered nature and friendly yet relaxed disposition. I couldn't ask for a better puppy!

Thank you for him and thank you for the work you continue to do. We'll keep you posted on his growth (which I'm sure will be extensive!) and I'll continue to send pictures of this adorable water-pup! Here's a couple pics (a shot from the pick-up, one from his first bath here and another from his first time at the park here) and thank you again.

Bailey

From Tina:

Wanted to send you an updated pic of Hannah/Bailey. she is now 9 months old, has learned High Five, Sit, Stay, Wait, Come (most of the time, unless chasing chipmunks on the walking trail by our house)

Thank you for doing such a great job @ fostering her, she is very outgoing ready to try everything..

Because she is so outgoing & friendly she is welcome everywhere... she is absolutely great with kids, very gentle when taking treats from their tiny hands.

My husband is a firefighter/EMT and absolutely loves to go the firestation -- not afraid of the sirens... very attentive, thinks Dad is on everything that goes by that has lights/sirens

She has gone on a couple of calls when we have been out, loves going code 3 with lights & sirens, head hanging out the window.. tongue flapping

Nelson

From Robin:

Nelson is awesome! So sweet. He has really settled in nicely, the kids love him. Took him to a self service dog wash when we got back from NH. Great concept the self service wash, we gave him an oatmeal bath and blowdry he was perfect. He loves to go on frequent walks and chase the tennis ball around the yard. I was giving him the food Paula suggested but he really wasn't eating very much. This morning I put a tablespoon of chicken drippings over the food and it was gone in no time flat. Think he's a southern boy at heart and just loves that home cooking. Not to worry table food will not be the normal feeding routine. I got a new camara for M's day and as soon as I have a minute to figure out how in heaven the thing works I'll send along some pics of Nelson in his new home.

Thanks so much for all you, Bo and your crew do. I was very impressed with the attention to detail and the caring and organized way you tended to everything. We were surprised to see so many people on Sat. Each dog that came off the truck was so good. A true sign of the great job you all do. Thanks again, pics soon.

Joey

From Katie:

Joey, adopted by Bradley, came to his new home this past Saturday, May 8, 2010.

I'm not sure who is happier- Joey or Brad (and his family)

Thank you, Peace & Paws for putting a smile on the faces in this household every day!

Chowder

From Julie:

I'm writing briefly to let you know that Blistah has landed. After 2 days with the family, we have renamed him Chowder. He's creamy, soft and yummy and it seems to fit.

We are in love. Everyone loves walking him, playing with him and cuddling him (I have to ask my 3-year old to stop blanketing him when he sleeps like she does with her dolls). Our dog Blue could not be happier. I thought she would be jealous for a few days. She seemed to get right away that he is a gift to her. They not only play the same games - lots of chewing and hiding - but she has accepted him as part of the flock and gets between him and anyone meeting him for the first time - until it is clear that all is okay.

I've signed him up for his first puppy class. He is sitting, coming, giving high fives and almost settling. When Blue, our other dog, has something he wants, he sits and gives high fives to her expecting the same result. Sooooo cute.

Thank you all for what you do and caring for him.

Peyton

From Nicole:

Peyton is doing great! Thank you for asking. He has taken to the leash, car rides, and potty training real well. He loves all people and dogs that he meets. He went to the vet last week and he is healthy. I think that I forgot to e-mail you but we did get the insurance info. It was love at first sight for all of us. He really loves his puppy brother Maitai. They play together real well. We do have to separate them a lot because his puppy teeth are real sharp and he has nicked up Maitai's face. I have attached a few pictures of him and his pals for you to see.

I'll keep you updated and send pictures as he grows.

Bodie

From Shantelle:

Thank you for bringing him into our lives. We are so in love with him. He has completed our happy family, and we have no idea how we ever lived without him. He is doing really well adjusting to his new home, I am pretty sure he loves us as much as we love him. I often wonder who rescued who.

He is all ready house trained, he rings a bell when he needs to go outside. I have been bringing him to work with me, where he gets plenty of socialization from humans as well as k9 friends in the building. I am attaching a photo of Bodie, from last weekend, in this photo we are on our way home from a nice walk with two of our Golden Retriever friends.

Thank you again for bringing him to us. I think you and your husband are saints.

Molly

From Fidelma:

Molly has settled in beautifully. She is a joy to have around. I'm exhausted from taking her out every hour but it has payed of. She now goes to the door when she needs to go out and sleeps 8 hours a night. We are spending alot of time outside in the woods and she is having a blast. Molly loves her toys and it is a joy to be sharing and exploring life with her. We just got back from her first vet visit where she made out well. She has a hernia that they will fix when she gets spayed. Other than that she in great health. She is a very sweet natured and intelligent little girl. Thank your husband for taking such good care of her during her journey. Both of you keep up the great work that you do and again thank you for bringing my little bundle of joy to me. My friends threw me a puppy shower today so we have more toys than we know what to do with. Take care & again thank you. She has brought a smile back to my face since losing Toby.

From Stacey:

Timber is doing great! I'm glad you checked in. I'd just signed on to drop you a line, and say thank you for all you've done. He is, as you know, just phenomenally sweet. He's been just wonderful with the girls from the very moment they met. They absolutely adore him (as do I). We've been outside alot today, enjoying the snow. The three of them have been playing variations on fetch, and chase the stick/ ball/ stuffed animal. Timber was terriffic on the car ride home; he just cuddled up to whoever was in the back seat with him, and looked at the scenery. He is adjusting very well to his new home. He and the cat were pretty comical on first meeting. The cat, Loki, didn't know what to make of him, and followed him around the house. Timber was just so sweet that he has quickly made Loki comfortable. Last night, the two of them joined Kaya (my 10 year old) to cuddle as she read herself to sleep.

Yesterday, we visited with some relatives who have a one year old beagle mix named Milo. Milo and Timber got along famously, joyfully romping throughout the house and the yard. I can really see why it's so important to keep him in good dog company. Quite a few of Kaya's friends have friendly dogs, so I plan on inviting the dogs to come along with their young people for visits. I've already arranged for my friend Jen to come visit with Timber and Kaya after school regularly. Things are looking good. Naturally, he's managed to find a few stuffed animals to chew on that Jasper left on the floor. She was warned though, and actually figured out on her own how to get Timber to switch from chewing her toy to his. (though I imagine there may be some stuffed casualties along the way) I can't thank you enough. It feels so good to have Timber with us. He just has this pure, contagious love. It's especially good to watch Kaya with him. She just looked so radiant with joy out in the yard with him as they raced around. Timber will definately be getting daily hugs, and then some! He seems really happy.

Again, thank you so much for letting us adopt such a wonderful dog. You, and everyone at Peace and Paws are doing such an amazing thing. You are making such a profound difference in the lives of these dogs, and of the people who love them.

Aussie

From Matt:

its been a few months since i was gifted with aussie aka missoula, i renamed her aussie about a week after i got her, she wasnt responding to missoula, but instantly responded to aussie, i wanted to reconnect with you to let you know shes the best thing that ever happend to me and i have you to thank for it. shes everything i was hoping for and more. i still cant thank you enough for bringing her into my life.i enclosed a few pictures of her, the vets say shes healthy and i can tell you shes happy and well loved. i take her with me everywhere i go. shes probly double or more the size she was when i first got her. thank you again for all your help

Amelia

From Ann & Terence:

I just wanted to write you an email on behalf of Terence, myself, and Amelia (aka "Emily"), and thank you from the bottom of our hearts. From the moment we saw her puppy photo on petfinder.com, we had a wonderful feeling about her, and can't express enough how grateful we are to everyone who helped bring Amelia to us. She is the perfect dog, so sweet and smart, and wonderfully quirky. She is the star of her puppy training classes, loves everyone, and is so incredibly beautiful!! She LOVES the snow and we play for hours everyday! She leaps through the piles of snow like a dolphin through water! She also enjoys visiting dad at his work at the vet clinic, and is a favorite with the other vets and technicians!

Amelia still has a huge head, just like when we picked her up in NH in September, but her body has caught up a bit! She is now 30lbs...and the assessment of Bernese/Hound mix is probably spot on! She sleeps with her hind legs straight out, and looks like she's a mile long!!!

We are so lucky that Amelia has come into our lives.. Terence and I got engaged around Thanksgiving, and if venue allows, Amelia has agreed to bear our rings down the aisle.

I'm attaching a couple of our favorite photos of our little baby. Thank you again for bringing so much joy to people's lives, and for bringing Amelia into ours.

Gabby and Tommy

From Teresa:

I just had to email you to gush: WHAT AN AWESOME DOG! Gabby (a.k.a. Ziva) is amazing! She's just the best of what her mix of breeds has to offer! Thank you so much for helping her and her liter-mates find homes. She is smart, sweet, sleek - just beautiful and growing FAST. I've never owned a dog so intelligent and obedient. It's been so fun watching her gain in confidence and strength and playfulness. She has become quite the people-dog and loves, LOVES, the kids.. Did I mention she LOVES the kids? I know she'll be an awesome protector for them. She's also loving the cranberry bogs near our home and bounds into the snow. Everyone just adores her and wants to take her home. She and we couldn't be happier. Thank you again and again for helping us. Please also thank Bo, Sonia and everyone in your organization.

Charlie

From Tracy:

Charlie is doing really well! He started obedience class this past week and will be learning some puppy manners on top of already knowing the "sit" and "down" commands. We believe that Charlie misses being with his litter and is lonely for some other canine company, so we will be attending puppy playtime once a month for some puppy socializing. At his vet visit last week, he weighed in at 34 1/2 pounds... even the vet was amazed at how big he was already! Charlie has developed a very special bond with my youngest son, Evan. He loves to play or lie next to anyone sitting on the floor, but Charlie seeks Evan out. Every morning, after he has gone out and eaten his breakfast, Charlie goes into Evan's room and lies with him until he gets up. At night, when Evan is getting into bed, Charlie follows Evan into his room and jumps up onto his bed and lies next to him until he is asleep. Charlie only moves when I come in to get him to make his last trip outside for the night before he goes into his crate for the evening. He's really a super dog! I've enclosed some recent pictures of Charlie, so you can see what he looks like now.

Cosmo

From JoLynn:

Cosmo is unbelievably wonderful! I planned to write you this weekend after he'd been with us for a week. From the moment he got off the truck, we bonded. My family feels so blessed! Cosmo went to the vet on Monday and passed with flying colors. His feces tests all returned negative and I was very proud of him when he responded to my signal to sit so that the tech could weigh him. He's 13.4 lbs. All of your recommendations have been followed to the letter and I really appreciate your thoroughness. Although we have always been around dogs and cared for our family and neighbors and friends pets we didn't have our own. Truthfully, Cosmo acts as if he has always been with us and that is wonderful. He is playful and loves his walks around the island where we live. The cold and the snow haven't seemed to be a problem. He sleeps well in his crate at night in one son's room and hangs out with our other son playing and napping on his Patriots pet pillow bed during the day. We have an appt for next month to get his Lyme disease shot and we start going to training next week.

I am grateful that I found you, your organization, and most of all Cosmo!

Freeman

From Daniel:

We now have a third dog: his name is "Freeman," due to his being free from an unfortunate first half of his life.

He is a 78 pound Alaskan Malamute, a magnificent personality and sweet nature. About 7 years old. He is very talkative. If he wants more attention or food, he will say "woo-woo" or sometimes howl. I have never heard him bark or whine. I picked him up from New Hampshire this Monday, getting back home 2:30 am on Tuesday. The adoption was arranged by Peace and Paws, via Petfinder.com Peace and Paws did a wonderful job with foster care and arrangements. He first laid down and exposed his belly to be rubbed on Thursday, so then I knew that he fully trusted me.

Freeman must have some starvation issues, since he is SUPER interested in food, and likes to help cook. This morning he joined the other two dogs on the trek up to the barn and hens. It had snowed 4 inches overnight, and then he ran back to the house with the other 2 dogs. This was beautiful to see since he is still recovering from a previous life of no exercise (6 by 6 pen) and lymes disease complications. It was not a graceful run like Rollo yet (Freeman looks just like Rollo), but is was great to see. Took him along on the nightly dog walk yesterday. Kept offering to go back, since he is still building muscles- however he insisted on keeping up with the brisk pace of the other two dogs.

I have been taking him to my office each day. He likes the extra attention and is very people oriented. Follows me around much of the day or sleeps in a location where he can keep an eye on me as he drifts off to sleep.

I went to Pet Smart yesterday, and Freeman thought he had gone to heaven when we walked down the treats aisle. Many commented on how beautiful he is. He takes things he wants off shelves and even took fig newtons from the back of the kitchen counter at work. I'm sure he would clean out the refrig and pantry if we would let him. This morning he stole the used coffee filter/grinds from me and I had to chase him to get it back. I also had to rescue a boxed bar of soap from him.

He choked and collapsed on some huge green pills (antibiotic) that I gave to him the first morning. Thought I was losing him, but by the time I got to the vet, the pill must have dissolved. Ever since he has refused wet cat food (which concealed the pill) So I can now leave out wet cat food within his extensive reach, unlike any other food. Now I now use "pill pockets" to give his medicine without complications.

Not sure if we will keep the name Freeman or not, he does not seem to respond to it. Know any good names for a male snowdog?

I made a large bed for him under a big desk. He really likes his Teddy bear, and often has his head or paw on the bear. I like to pet him and make him purr. It is a very low note purr, first time I heard it- thought it was a growl, but it is on the inhale, not exhale and he looks so happy..

Sadie

From Nancy and Tony:

Sadie (formerly Kobie from Indiana!) is doing great. She joins my 5 1/2 yr old dog Scooter, two cats- Libby and Maggie, and an added kitten that came just 2 weeks after her (rescued from being blown around by kids with a leaf blower - only 3 wks old) It has been crazy trying to train her and bottle feeding the kitten but things have settled down. My vet was blown away by the great job the rescue service and vet did on Sadie. They were amazed that she had her shots, dewormed, spayed and in great health. Please extend my thanks to all your partners in the effort of her rescue. I must say tho', Linda (her foster mom) must have dressed her up alot....I try to put a cute little pink sweater on her and she runs like heck ...once its on, she just sits there all PO'd. Anyway, thank you again for Sadie and be assured that she's in good care!

Nancy and Tony & "the gang"

Amy

From Patty and Todd:

Amitia (Amy) is great. We are madly in love with her. She is quite papertrained and on her way to being house trained. She goes outside, but her little bladder sometimes can't make it all the way, so we have papers right before the door. She was checked out at the vet and got her shots. She is not crazy about the crate, but its getting easier each day.

The cats are on their way also to being friends. They just wish she was not so "puppyish" with the big paws. No wacks yet!!

Thank you for all you two do. We are in in love. I will update your web page also with pics.

From Pam and Jack:

I can't believe a whole year has passed since we got our beautiful little Spirit ( formerly Snuggles). We were reminicing over the weekend and remembering your husband carrying her out of the van and placing her in our daughters arms. She has been such a joy and again we want to thank you for getting her for us. She is an awesome dog and both her and Baylee (formerly Faith) have turned out to be wonderful dogs. I can't imagine our lives without them. We hope you are all well and have a wonderful holiday season.

Indiana

From Kara:

Indy, aka Bozeman is doing fantastic. We are absolutely loving her and she is settling in to the routine of our family very nicely. I have attached a picture of her and Pete that I absolutely love. I will send more in the future.

Hope you got a chance to try the coffee and thank you kindly for all the hard work you and everyone in your networks do on behalf of the animals. We are so happy to have Indy as part of the family! Thank you for making it possible.

Charlie

From Mike and Tracy:

We cannot tell you enough how much we love, love, love Charlie!! He is so good in every aspect of the word.. he hardly whines or barks... he sleeps through the night... he doesn't chew anything but his own toys (and occasionally a worn spot on the living room carpet)... we had our first bathroom "accident" only this evening (and that was because our vet visit interrupted our bathroom schedule)... and he's wonderful with the kids! We couldn't have asked for a better dog!! The vet has given him a preliminary clean bill of health, and we are just waiting for the fecal testing to come back. He got his first doses of dewormer, Heartguard, and Frontline this evening, and has an appointment to go back to the vet next month for his next vaccination. He'll be getting neutered sometime in February (probably around the last week of the month, since I am on February school vacation that week). We are looking into obedience classes, and are hoping to start those soon. : )

He was so scared when he arrived at the house Saturday afternoon... he didn't move from where he sat down in our kitchen for almost an hour! By dinner time he had warmed up to the entire family. His favorite thing to do is to lie down next to Evan on the floor and lie his head and paws over his legs while they watch tv together at night, just before bedtime... it's really cute! He also tells his reflection in the glass doors on our entertainment center who's boss every time he walks by... it's hysterical! : ) All in all, we are doing fantastic! Thank you so very much for helping us to adopt Charlie! You guys are the best! : )

From Marian:

Willy is now "Ringo," because he is a British breed, and, with my being an English teacher, I thought "Willy Shakespeare" was great . . . or Dickens, or Falstaff, or some other hifallutin' name . . . maybe Sherlock or Watson. Well, I was out-voted, and my kids and grandkids came up with "Ringo."

Ringo stole our hearts the minute we saw him. The ride home was perfect, and so is Ringo. We love terriers, and this one is "a trip." He took the stairs to our second floor like a pro, and sniffed out every corner of this Victorian. He's just added so much happiness and laughter! He's great with people, little kids, and other dogs. My sister's grandchildren live close by, and we drove past their house just as they were leaving for DisneyWorld. Suddenly, Disney took a back seat to Ringo, and Rebecca, who is four, came running out as we were pulling away, just to say "I love you, Ringo."

We absolutely love him . . . and think it was kismet. But even more importantly, my long-winded note was a sincere "thank-you," not only for our joy, but for the wonderful and compassionate work you do. We heard about you from our son, who adopted a Pyranees Mountain Dog (he has loads of land), and kept raving about his experience. You and Bo are saints in my book. The thought of these little guys being labelled "out of time" breaks my heart. On Thanksgiving, when my whole family gathers here, we will offer a toast to you and all the kind people in your network. Enjoy Thanksgiving: you have given so many others a reason to give thanks!

Ringo, I'm afraid, is a sultan already!

From Bonnie:

Well it is 5:00 a.m. and Eeenie says it is time to get up. What a joy this puppy is. She is happy and full of life. One forgets how active puppies are. She played and welcomed the grandchildren with opened paws. First minute home she did both her duties in the litter box. I was amazed. She is in my lap as I write this as she is tuckered out from playing (and I must admit I am tuckered out also) I think when I saw her face on petfinder it was meant to be. It has been very sad here since my husband died and my longtime pet had to be put to sleep. Now there is nothing but joy and I find myself talking to her constantly. (My new roommate) You are responsible for making so many people happy as I saw on the faces in the parking lot, not to mention how happy you made all the pets. Thank you again for all the good you do and also thank the people who fostered her while she waited for her permanent home. They did a great job. Bless you all.

Moe and Mamie

From Amanda:

Moe and Mamie are doing really well! I think having them both here made the transition easy! They're hilarious together. Moe is a little spunky thing and they always have to play with the same toy at the same time, which of course leads to tugging! They wear themselves out. Mamie is bigger but seems much more dependent on Moe than him on her. She follows him around. I'm so happy I got both of them. I have a vet appointment tomorrow at 3:45 for the both of them. It's right across the street from my house so it should be easy. I will let you know how it goes :) Thanks again for everything! I attached a picture from yesterday, it's my favorite!

Looch

From Kim:

You, Bo, and Chris were all great and we appreciate all your hard work. I have attached several pictures of Looch. As you can see he is very at home here and we love having him. Thanks again and we will stay in touch!

Oscar

From Terry:

Just wanted to let you know that Carter (Oscar) is doing GREAT at his new home in Rhode Island! He's a joy! Hope you can view the pics.

He is an absolutely wonderful pup. He is sooooo well behaved. And adorable!!! He and my daughter's little white terrier, Eva, are crazy about each other, so he has a perfect playmate.

Our thanks to you all for the wonderful job you did with this precious little guy. He met his doctor on Saturday and passed the exam with flying colors. I was surprised and very happy to find that you had him vaccinated for Lyme disease, which is such a problem in this area. The vet and his staff were very taken with him....the assistant didn't want to let him out of her arms :-)

Brandi, I think he misses you! True story - - I bought him a new collar and put his little yellow collar - - the one you had on him - - in a catch-all drawer near the floor. A few days later I was looking for something in that drawer and he came over, poked his nose in the drawer, and grabbed the yellow collar. He took it to his other toys in the hallway. When Eva came over for a visit and went near the collar, he gave her a little growl! Now he keeps that collar with his toys - - I think it reminds him of you!

From Rhonda:

Just wanted to let you know that Pebbles is doing great. She is so funny - a lot of personality and bold energy!

I think her transition will be uneventful - she already seems at home. I've emailed Sherry (her foster mom to give her the update)...

Sorry we didn't get more of an opportunity to socialize at the pick up... Stupid weather!

I'll forward you pics and a bit of video that my husband took when we got home. She's already actively playing with my son (4 1/2 years) - and has been introduced to the barn and horses...

One of my boarders has a 5 month old chinese crested puppy and she brought him over. The played together in the garage for a bit.

She's now taking a much needed puppy nap.

Thanks for the opportunity. I'll continue with the updates.

From Terry:

We just wanted to say hello and thank you again- here are some pictures of the girls. They remain SO excited to have each other and us :) They are inseperable and have become better around strangers, dogs, cats and us since we reunited them so thank you so much for making that happen. Hope all is well with your hubby and work and that your lives are filled with happy success stories! We will always be grateful to have met such wonderful people who made this possible.

Cactus Jack

From Lila:

I just had to write again to tell you how amazing this little boy is! He is so smart, and so respectful of his elders! Tobias lets him know what he isn't going to share (that's an apple that Jack would very much like to taste) and Jack very carefully backs off.. then sometimes tries getting a little closer, but he's always very smart about it. Except the few times he's catapulted himself from across the room and landed right on top of Tobias, but even then he had the good sense not to stick around until Tobias realized what it was that hit him! Tobias isn't completely sure yet what he thinks of him, but I THINK (and hope) he is going to like him a lot! He's just as likely now to wag his tail when Jack leaps into his face as he is to make that low, threatening grumble!

We have gone for progressively longer and longer walks in the woods, and he is doing so much better than I expected!! The first day he was kind of nervous and really waited to be shown where to go and had to be encouraged. The next day, he was confident up until the place that we stopped the day before. Then he was a little wary again, but he'd always come along after just a little reassurance. He wasn't sure how the heck he was expected to EVER get across the little streams (rivulets, really) but after watching us, he cautiously tried it himself. Today he was So great, he led the way (without pulling on the leash), even when we went way past where we ended yesterday, and he still has lots of energy when we come home.

Cactus Jack

LOOK at him go!

Finley

From Shannon:

Everything is going great with CornChip. He is such a sweet little dog. He and Petals (are current dog) had a funny first few days of figuring out each other's boundaries but now they are sweet and relaxed with each other. They are such different dogs it is nice how they seemingly balance each other out. He is a healthy boy and a big love! Thank you so much for the chance to have him!

Attached is a picture for you guys .... after a few days of "fighting" it out over the beds, this is what they decided on ...

From Joan:

I adore her.....Some things are just meant to be- your casual suggestion to look at her picture and here she is. She is - crate trained- holds her own with the big dogs- in fact runs the neighbors large Golden ( poor sweet Golden is not the brightest bulb) and Hilda is very very smart- I took her to the vet on Sat- I just wanted my vet to see her. Did not care about the cost. She is well, thin but gaining weight. Will go back this week for more shots and stool check. I have my own Panacur so am giving that. I am also going to have her hips checked so that if she should need any surgery I will be able to address that with all the options like a TPO before she gets too old. My husband and I are in love with her- still thinking of a name. I am so thankful for all who handled her and took care of her.

From Denise and Joe:

Cooper is doing great. You would think she has lived here her whole life. She sits with me while I teach and does not make a peep when I am riding she bombs around on her run and plays with the kids and could care less about where I am. She is very well socialized. Who ever her foster parents were did a wonderful job. She is good on the leash sleeps in her crate all night and seems to be basically house broke( hard to tell because we outside so much) So she has not been allowed near any of the other dogs. We will wait a couple weeks. All of my boarders are showering her with gifts she has a trunk of chew toys in 4 days. I am most impressed with her behavior around the horses. She is very quiet even when they run. That will send most dogs a little wild! Her temperament seems to be exactly what we were hoping for. I am sure as she gets a little older she may have some more opinions but we will see! Thank you again for making things happen so quickly. In another year or so when we get the house hopefully we can give another pup a home. Thanks again

Finley

From Bonnie and Mike:

Everything is going great with Finley!!!! He is a wonderful puppy. He seems very smart and has a terrific personality. He made himself right at home, found his favorite places to lay down. I think he is housebroken already. Likes to sleep in his big crate at night, etc...

Finley and Buddy are getting along, better and better every day. Buddy is getting lots of exercise running around the back yard with Finley. We took him to the Vet. on Tuesday, he got some shots, Meds. for loose stools, Heartgard, and Frontline.

I am so happy and grateful that I found you, and you found Finley for us!!!!!!!!

Thank you for making it happen......You all work so hard for these animals...it's really a blessing, that there are people who are so giving!!!!!

By the way he really is handsome.....see photo!!!!!!

Bubba

From Brooke:

It has been 6 weeks since I picked up Bubba, the chihuahua formerly known as Nacho. I could not have custom-ordered a better dog for me, you made a perfect match! He is so wonderful and has added so much joy and happiness to my life - not to mention he is the smartest dog ever to walk the planet. He is my constant companion. Bubba receives constant love and affection, which he returns ten-fold!

Thank you SO much for matching me with Bubba. I can't imagine life without him.

Phoebe

From Nancy:

Phoebe May came into our lives thanks to Peace and Paws Rescue on 9/12, a rescue from Alabama. She was scared and shaking and would not look at us for ½ the drive home from NH to RI. One day later, she was clearly happy in her new home, and now only 5 days later, she is a new dog. Her tail is always wagging (sometimes it looks like it will fall off!) and she has her favorite toy – a stuffed bear. She has a voracious appetite, and she is the most lovable little pup with the most adorable face. She also already sits with a hand gesture only, and has quickly become the queen of the house. We are so thrilled to be able to provide this precious little ball of love with a good forever home, and we are the ones who are blessed with the unconditional love that only a dog can give. Thank you, Peace and Paws!

Moxie

From Tonya:

She is doing great! We renamed her Moxie (our Daughter is named Abby ad we thought this would be confusing for both). Moxie seems to fit her very well as she is a gutsy little girl and is black as the black licorice soda! She has been taking to crate training very well, and we are getting into a good eating and pooping routine with the “go potty” command – followed by treats and praise! The training information that you sent was a great help! I have updated her name on the 24hour Petwatch site as well.

We went to our vet on Monday just to check in and all is well! We will be doing a booster of the Kennel Cough before starting the obedience class just in case.

She was clearly very well taken care of in her foster home, she has a great personality, will let you hold her, lay her on her back, play with her ears, paws, etc. without struggle, and has taken to playing fetch very easily! She has become a fixture with me at the bus stop in the mornings and the afternoon, and stays next to me at my desk on her pillow when I am working (if she has not crawled into my lap).

Here is a picture from yesterday while we were waiting for the kids to get home from school!

Thank you again! She has been a great addition to our family!

Myah

From Dave:

Wow! What a dog, you guys weren't kidding. Such a lovely personality and so eager to please and learn. We're leaving her crated once or twice a day for short periods and she's doing okay. We have 4 weeks until the kids and I go back to school/work so there's plenty of time. She sleeps on a rug next to our bed and other than tail thumping and showing you her belly for a rub if you get during the night, she'll sleep for 6-7 hours wonderfully.

I don't think we fully understood just how exhausted and stressed she was from the last however many weeks until she really started to relax here. Yesterday afternoon, after some play in the yard, she found a spot under our blueberry bushes and just slept and slept. She's great with the kids and actually lies down and lets the cat explore her, we've had some nose to nose sniffing so that's all going to be fine. She went with Sam and I to drop him off for his camp bus this morning and stood in a circle surrounded by 10 year old boys all trying to pet her and get her attention simultaneously. No jumping or pulling, just absorping all the love.

I think she's going to be just fine. Thanks so much for helping her find her way home.

Troy

From Rich:

Troy is a fantastic lil pup. He loves his new life so far is, and is really getting used to schedule and his surroundings. I just came back from a 4 day camping trip in the White Mountains and Troy had a blast, loved it - we had 14 people and 3 other dogs and they all played until they passed out. I had to keep Troy on a leader so it got a little tangled. But he was a the hit of the party getting belly rubs from everyone. Even got a little swimming in, a little scared but I think he'll love it eventually.

He's a TOTAL ham, just loves attention and affection, from the moment he knows I am up in the AM he is playing with me and really into his morning belly rub (coffee for Troy) he needs his coffee before his morning walk.

We go to the dog park and he's going to go to daycare on Wed. so he can romp and play and stay socialized.

He's very gentle, loving, and playful all I asked for and more in a dog, Thank you so very much - My life will be better with Troy, and Troy is going to have the best life a dog could hope for.

Puffy

From Ashley:

Have you ever noticed the number of people standing around the transport truck on Saturday mornings with tears in their eyes, or even wiping away actual tears? I did, and I noticed because I felt like a sentimental fool until I looked around and saw others with tears too. I hadn't even received Puffy yet. Simply seeing every other dog come out of the truck and being handed over to the new owners was causing the tears because I *KNEW* based on your amazingly careful adoption application process, that all those dogs were going into loving homes. To see either the terrified shaking dogs, or the dogs just so EXCITED to meet their new owners come off that truck and know that they had a new start coming their way, was so amazing to be able to witness! Thank you again for what you do! What a wonderful thing to be a part of Saturday morning.

So, as I took Puffy for a walk around the parking lot once off the truck, I passed the guy who received the black and white herding dog and that guy called out to me (with a chuckle)..."Well THAT one sure looks like a whole LOT of mischief!!" Puffy is definitely a bundle of energy and BEYOND starving for affection. I am still working on being able to go to the bathroom without her needing to be right there beside me :). Training classes and daycare to let her RUN all day...here we come! I got my last dog as an old dog, so this is quite a change and I am learning quickly! An hour into our drive home from New Hampshire, I looked at her in the back seat and she was completely zonked out, sleeping on her back with her legs straight up in the air. That is what I wanted to see...a rescue dog in a situation (or with an owner) where they feel completely safe and comfortable falling asleep like that!

My cat is not-so-thrilled! The permanent look on his face is, "you have GOT to be KIDDING me!!! You brought THIS home??!!!" It isn't helping that despite the fact that I bought Puffy not one, but TWO new beds, the only one she wants to sleep in is the CAT's bed. Sigh...

I have attached some pictures. She is definitely a happy girl, and keeping me on my toes!

Hope aka Daizee

From Paul & Prudy:

Hope has a new name, we call her Daizee and Zee for short, She had a big adventure up at the lake in Maine. She likes to swim, boat and check out all the interesting things around a lake. She is such a lap dog and just loves other dogs. She likes to chase the vacuum hose and the water sprayed from the garden hose. She is starting to come when we call her and has learned "Sit" and "paw". She is doing very well with potty training and does her business in the back corner of the fence and has only had one accident in the house. She is a very good girl.

Leafberry

From Melanie:

The photo of my son and Leafberry was snapped at the moment he had given his heart to her and she understood that there was something special about this human. I named the photo, "I've been waiting years for you" because that is what he whispered to her as he was giving her this little cuddle. My photos are beautiful to me because I only take photos of people (and now, animals) that I love. It never occured to me that others might find value in them. I just sent them to you and Sonja so you could see that she will be loved. I am glad you liked them.

Cody and Suki

From Lauren:

Things are going fantastic with Suki. She and Cody started playing a lot today... wrestling stuff. He is very gentle with her, so we couldn't be happier about that. And she is quite enamored with him. puppy love i guess!! She doesn't quite use the puppy pads everytime yet i think two out of three though! and we take her out in the yard every two hours or so, to try to get her to do business there... sometimes we have good timing, other times not so well. :) ...progress. But thank you again, we are so happy. Best of luck with her brother and sisters, we hope they seem as happy with their new homes as Suki does :))

Georgie Girl

From Allyson & Family:

Just wanted to take a minute to thank you for all of your help in the process of adopting Georgie Girl. You were so great to work with, professional, responsive, and knowledgeable. I was glad to have met you face to face yesterday.

Georgie Girl is settling in well. She has figured out how to climb stairs, that the television is not a threat, and that the rug is a pretty decent place to nap. She is a great dog. I think once she settles in fully, things will work out really well. It is so nice to know we are providing her with a nice home, and I can see her responding to that and loving it already.

I attached a picture of her after her bath, perhaps the name "Spike" may have suited her too :)

Bruin and Cash

From Lindsay:

Back in January I adopted Ricky and Fred from your organization. They were brought to me by Peace and Paws. They are now Bruin (Boston Bruins) and Cash (Johnny Cash)! They are the best dogs ever! We love them so much and are so happy to have. I have attached a few pictures for you to see!

I was looking at the website xpar.org and the video of the skinny, but now healthier puppy was on. I am not sure if it was your voice or not... Both the boys were asleep and heard the womans voice and woke up! They came over near me by the computer and starting whining! I have played the video a few times and each time the same thing happens! They recognize that voice. So whoever's voice is in the video, the boys say HI and THANK YOU for saving them and sending them to us!

Thanks again for all you do!

Cinder-Bella

From Sue and Carlo:

We wanted to send you these pics along with a huge thank-you for choosing us to adopt Cinder, she is so sweet. She is adjusting well, we changed her name to Bella (beautiful in Italian) a name we planned for our first female shepherd. We find ourselves calling her Cinder-Bella a combination of both names. She sleeps all night, eats great, sits in front of the door when she needs to go out to do her business. She has played with Nico everyday (our 2 1/2 year old shepherd) frisbee, they run around chasing each other. She is so adorable always kissing us, we are both so in love with her.
